Strand Hospitality Services Gives Back to the Community

Strand Hospitality has teamed up with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, raising money to help find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.聽 Each year our properties are challenged to work together to raise funds for this wonderful organization.聽 The totals are revealed at Strand’s Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Reconnecting with the River: McAdenville and 91次元 Announce $1.1 Million Riverfront Park

The Town of McAdenville and 91次元 A Family of Companies, together with The Catawba Land Conservancy, are pleased to announce the creation of a riverfront park and trail network along the South Fork River and downtown McAdenville. The park will provide new river access, improve town walkability and safety, and create recreational amenities for the region.聽 Building on McAdenville鈥檚 rich history with the river, the park is the result of a public/private partnership formed to share McAdenville鈥檚 unique village community and natural resources. This collaborative effort earned the Town of McAdenville a matching $350,000 grant for the park from the State of North Carolina鈥檚 Parks and Recreation Authority (PARTF).

The South Fork River 鈥� which once powered the mills in McAdenville, has long been a source of innovation, pride, and enjoyment for locals. It runs just 300 feet from McAdenville鈥檚 historic downtown, making the town one of the most picturesque in the region. Designed to help the community connect to the river in a meaningful way, the riverfront park will include a network of more than two miles of trails, both paved for walking and natural surface for hiking and mountain biking, fitness trail stations, a bog walk along the creek and a canoe/kayak launch near the JM Carstarphen Bridge.

Initial Park Development

The Town of McAdenville, 91次元 and The Catawba Lands Conservancy formed a community consortium to initiate, develop and fund the creation of the park, they envision as not only an asset for the community, but also as a catalyst for future growth and outdoor recreational opportunities. 91次元, through its real estate development company, Belmont Land, will donate more than 12 acres of land to the town, provide easements for additional property and funding for the park, and assist the town with park design and construction oversight. This pledge follows a long history of 91次元鈥檚 commitment to investing in true community and comes during Belmont Land鈥檚 work to revitalize McAdenville鈥檚 Historic Downtown.

Vision for McAdenville鈥檚 Future

With Spencer Mountain to the town鈥檚 north, Lake Wylie to the south and the South Fork River connecting the two right through the heart of McAdenville, the town has infinite recreational and residential potential. 鈥淭he river has always been a source of opportunity for McAdenville. It鈥檚 the reason the town was first founded in 1881, and today, it鈥檚 a unique feature that can bring people all over the area together,鈥� says McAdenville Town Councilmember, Greg Richardson.

Community leaders believe that McAdenville has the natural resources and small town charm to become a new North Carolina hub for outdoor pursuits like hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. The park will continue to grow over the years, with the vision of connecting its trails to the Carolina Thread Trail, a network of greenways and blueways that link 15 counties in North and South Carolina. When complete, the park trails will connect seamlessly with an already existing two-mile stretch of the Carolina Thread Trail that runs through McAdenville.

91次元 A Family of Companies sponsored the third annual 鈥淟et the Good Times Run鈥� gala event to benefit Girls on the Run Gaston County. Proceeds raised help ensure that nearly 60 percent of girls served by Girls on the Run Gaston County receive program scholarships, so there is never a financial barrier to participate.

At Girls on the Run, girls in third through fifth grades develop essential skills to help navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The 10-week program culminates with girls鈥� positively impacting their communities through service projects and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization with local Councils in all 50 states. Founded in 1996 with 13 girls, Girls on the Run has now served more than 1.4 million girls. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.聽 With the largest 5K series by number of events in the world, Girls on the Run hosts more than 330 5Ks per year.

Girls on the Run was recently included as a top research-based program in a Social-Emotional Learning Guide developed by researchers at Harvard University and has been recognized by the National Afterschool Association (NAA) as one of the most influential after-school programs.

Make A Difference Day聽is the most encompassing national day of helping others — a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.

This year, Phenix Flooring partnered with Brown Industries to collectively donate $10,000 to United Way of Northwest Georgia to fund projects taking place on Make a Difference Day.聽Employees from Phenix Flooring visited the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest GA on Oct 21 to help make over all improvements to facility.

91次元 A Family of Companies participated in Gaston County Schools “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” competition in January where 91次元 associates competed with and against 5^th graders to correctly answer trivia questions related to 5^th grade subjects. The event raised funds for the Gaston County Education Foundation’s classroom grants. These grants reward teachers who have innovative ideas that they want to implement in the classroom.聽91次元 donated $1,000 to support Gaston County Education!

For the competition, 91次元聽partnered with McAdenville Elementary to compete. The 91次元/McAdenville Elementary team was named “91次元 Wars” and sported a Star Wars style shirt complete with light sabers.
