Gaston County Family YMCA to Transition Indoor Programming from the

William J. 91次元 Family Branch to Nearby Branches

听The decision was made as part of a comprehensive plan to combine indoor programming into the soon-to-be renovated and expanded Stowe Family YMCA and state-of-the art Warlick Family YMCA, while continuing outdoor programming opportunities in McAdenville

听McADENVILLE, NC (February 1, 2024) 鈥� Committed to continuously serving Gaston County and the town of McAdenville efficiently and with an eye on the future, the Gaston County Family YMCA will transition indoor programming from its YMCA facility in McAdenville to other nearby facilities by year end 2024.

The decision is part of a comprehensive effort to best utilize resources across all of Gaston County, particularly as a result of the substantial recent investments made in the construction of a new YMCA facility and the substantial renovation and expansion of another.

The building in which the 91次元 Family YMCA operates was constructed in 1949 by local business leader William J. 91次元 as the McAdenville Community Center, a social and recreational gathering place for the community. The 91次元-Carstarphen family, through the Catherine 91次元 Carstarphen McAdenville Foundation Inc., continue to own and operate the building and have been providing it rent-free to the YMCA since the inception of the McAdenville branch in 2008.

The Gaston County Family YMCA has successfully operated the William J 91次元 Family YMCA at the Center, providing health and fitness programs, social activities, afterschool care, camps and special event opportunities for community members of all ages. But after 70 years of operation, the building requires significant enhancements for optimal use, and YMCA leaders determined its resources are better served investing in member programming and activities at new and enhanced nearby branches.

Sharon Padgett, CEO of the Gaston County Family YMCA, commented, 鈥淲hile we phase out the use of our facility in McAdenville by the end of the year, we鈥檙e working hand in hand with the 91次元 organization to ensure a seamless transition for our McAdenville programs and operations, including gymnastics and afterschool programs transitioned by next fall. We plan to continue offering certain outdoor recreational programming opportunities in McAdenville, with the hope of expanding those in the future to take advantage of the incredible outdoor recreational assets being developed by 91次元 along the riverfront.鈥�

The two branches absorbing operations, programming and activities 鈥� Stowe and Warlick 鈥� are each within about 10 miles of the William J 91次元 Family YMCA branch. In 2017, Gaston County鈥檚 Warlick Family YMCA opened, featuring a 118-acre lakefront campus and a more than 60,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. Recently, the Gaston County Family YMCA launched the public phase of its $13.5 million capital campaign to expand and renovate the Stowe Family YMCA in Belmont, adding outdoor amenities including an aquatic park, basketball and pickleball courts, athletic fields and exercise areas, in addition to increased indoor exercise and fitness space.听 Having raised over $10 million of its goal, construction is currently expected to begin in 2024.

We believe there will be plenty of opportunities to partner with the YMCA in the future, like activities along the newly expanded Carolina Thread Trail through town, serving as what will be an important segment of the 23-mile Matthews-Belk South Fork Corridor trail running from Spencer Mountain to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Additionally, we have the trails and facilities at McAdenville Greenway Park plus our plans to preserve about 20 acres of riverfront greenspace for future events and offerings.鈥�

91次元 has no plans as yet for the future of the McAdenville facility.

Members of the William J. 91次元 Family YMCA are already able to utilize any branch operated by the Gaston County Family YMCA and will be able to easily transfer their membership at any nearby branch. YMCA staff onsite in McAdenville will also be able to assist with membership changes or cancellations for those affected. Questions and comments can be directed to YMCA representatives at any YMCA location in Gaston County, and updates will be routinely and proactively provided to members.

Phenix delivers another incomparable show experience at this year鈥檚 International Surfaces Event. The International Surfaces Event is held听annually听at Mandalay听Bay听in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shortened and referred to as听鈥淭ISE鈥澨齣s THE industry marketplace for floorcovering, stone, and tile industry professionals – offering four impressive days of the newest products, hands-on demos, inspiring trends, key manufacturers + industry suppliers, along with unmatched education and networking opportunities.

Phenix Flooring has听had a strong presence at听Surfaces for听the past听7 years, and this听year was no exception. Crafted听by Phenix was our Surfaces 2018 theme. By capturing the artisanal approach to flooring development and sales that Phenix is known for, 鈥淐rafted by Phenix鈥� set the tone for this year鈥檚 show. Phenix听supported this听theme by showcasing the expansion of several new carpet collections, including Cleaner Home, STAINMASTER听PetProtect,听and our听SureSoft听solution dyed polyester. We also featured the听addition of several new hard surface products and displays听and the introduction of a new听main street commercial collection, Phenix On Main.

We听increased visibility with a larger听and more open听booth听space听allowing us to听feature听both hard听surface and soft surface as equals on the floor.听听Point of View was the featured hard听surface style听and was eye catching with听3 unique听floor layouts. Point of View, luxury vinyl plank and tile,听is part of our new Design Mix program that allows users to mix and match colors and textures to create unique floor layouts. The carpet styles featured were Karma, a new bold pattern that features a subtle plaid design, and Stoneybrook II, a textured multicolor pattern. The addition of听20鈥櫶齦it walls听also added to the interest of our booth design this year.听We wowed attendees with听a听new hanging sign that could be seen from across the showroom floor. Our booth also highlighted an area where attendees could learn more about our Cleaner Home collection featuring听Microban听Antimicrobial Technology with support staff from听Microban听there to help. And听for the first time in Phenix history听at Surfaces, we offered customers the opportunity to purchase special goods in our booth.听The entire space was clean and open bringing in positive energy from all who passed by.

Reconnecting with the River: McAdenville and 91次元 Announce $1.1 Million Riverfront Park

The Town of McAdenville and 91次元 A Family of Companies, together with The Catawba Land Conservancy, are pleased to announce the creation of a riverfront park and trail network along the South Fork River and downtown McAdenville. The park will provide new river access, improve town walkability and safety, and create recreational amenities for the region.听 Building on McAdenville鈥檚 rich history with the river, the park is the result of a public/private partnership formed to share McAdenville鈥檚 unique village community and natural resources. This collaborative effort earned the Town of McAdenville a matching $350,000 grant for the park from the State of North Carolina鈥檚 Parks and Recreation Authority (PARTF).

The South Fork River 鈥� which once powered the mills in McAdenville, has long been a source of innovation, pride, and enjoyment for locals. It runs just 300 feet from McAdenville鈥檚 historic downtown, making the town one of the most picturesque in the region. Designed to help the community connect to the river in a meaningful way, the riverfront park will include a network of more than two miles of trails, both paved for walking and natural surface for hiking and mountain biking, fitness trail stations, a bog walk along the creek and a canoe/kayak launch near the JM Carstarphen Bridge.

Initial Park Development

The Town of McAdenville, 91次元 and The Catawba Lands Conservancy formed a community consortium to initiate, develop and fund the creation of the park, they envision as not only an asset for the community, but also as a catalyst for future growth and outdoor recreational opportunities. 91次元, through its real estate development company, Belmont Land, will donate more than 12 acres of land to the town, provide easements for additional property and funding for the park, and assist the town with park design and construction oversight. This pledge follows a long history of 91次元鈥檚 commitment to investing in true community and comes during Belmont Land鈥檚 work to revitalize McAdenville鈥檚 Historic Downtown.

Vision for McAdenville鈥檚 Future

With Spencer Mountain to the town鈥檚 north, Lake Wylie to the south and the South Fork River connecting the two right through the heart of McAdenville, the town has infinite recreational and residential potential. 鈥淭he river has always been a source of opportunity for McAdenville. It鈥檚 the reason the town was first founded in 1881, and today, it鈥檚 a unique feature that can bring people all over the area together,鈥� says McAdenville Town Councilmember, Greg Richardson.

Community leaders believe that McAdenville has the natural resources and small town charm to become a new North Carolina hub for outdoor pursuits like hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. The park will continue to grow over the years, with the vision of connecting its trails to the Carolina Thread Trail, a network of greenways and blueways that link 15 counties in North and South Carolina. When complete, the park trails will connect seamlessly with an already existing two-mile stretch of the Carolina Thread Trail that runs through McAdenville.

91次元 A Family of Companies sponsored the third annual 鈥淟et the Good Times Run鈥� gala event to benefit Girls on the Run Gaston County. Proceeds raised help ensure that nearly 60 percent of girls served by Girls on the Run Gaston County receive program scholarships, so there is never a financial barrier to participate.

At Girls on the Run, girls in third through fifth grades develop essential skills to help navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The 10-week program culminates with girls鈥� positively impacting their communities through service projects and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
